Brainstorming topics for my game
In this blog post I intend on running through some possible ideas for the game that I am going to create. I will discuss where I got the inspiration for the game from, my ideas for the art style and mechanics I would like to include.
Idea 1- Cat simulator
My cat Ham, the inspiration for my cat sim |
Idea 2- Soulsborne inspired 2D game
My second idea is for a soulsborne inspired 2D game, the best way I could describe this possible game would be something similar to ' Hollow Knight ' which was developed by Team Cherry and released in 2017 ( trailer ). I would like this game to be skill based much like souls games where it would be incredibly difficult at first but with a bit of time and effort the game would become much more manageable. I would like the game to have a sprite based art style much like Hollow Knight and other similar games. In keeping with the style of soulsborne games I would like to include a mechanic where upon death the player would loose some sort of collectable that can be regained when they respawn by defeating a certain enemy or collecting it from the spot they died at.
Idea 3- Visual novel

Idea 4- Quirky RPG
My forth idea is to create what I can only describe as a ' quirky ' RPG in the style of Earthbound and Undertale. To me both of these games have such an interesting sense of humor and incredibly interesting mechanics. I would like to play with the traditional structure of an RPG much like Earthbound and Undertale did. For example I could change up the setting of the game, typically RPGs are set in some sort of fantastic world but I think it would be interesting to instead explore a more ' normal ' world like an office, art gallery or a shopping center. I believe that moving away from the focus on combat much like Undertale did would also be interesting. For example instead of combat being your main way of leveling up maybe interactions with other characters or doing tasks could be the main way of leveling up your character.
Hey Ciara,
ReplyDeleteJust wanted to see some of the games you were thinking of making. I love the idea for a cat simulator and the amount of people that would absolutely love that. When people love cats they really love cats! I have to say Hollow Knight was one of my favourite games over lockdown. I was looking for something that was more basic when it came to art style and game play and I absolutely love a game where you power up your main person to gain new abilities and this game did not disappoint. If you can think of any similar games like this let me know because I would love to try :)

Hi Ciara, I love your ideas, especially the Dream Daddy idea. that made me chuckle and would love to try that out. not dating dads but playing the game. I like where you are going with an RPG because the can always be built upon with something new to add to all the time. I do love most RPGs myself :D As for Cat Simulater, I dont know if you have ever played what goat simulator but my fu..... that game is funny, and awesome. Go check it out for some inspiration and over play the cat persona. Like be a cat and go around laying on food or knocking stuff over. baisicly like Goat simulator but with a cat.
ReplyDeleteI love your ideas though and cant wait to see what you bring to the table :D

Okay these are some of the creative-est ideas I've seen so far and I'm all for it, A funny dating sim sounds so funny I wanna see it already even though its just a possible game, the cat sim is already making me open up nintendogs and if you started being taught how to do cell shading or you read how to do it somewhere throw us a link or two, that's one of my favourite styles :), these are some really cool idea's I can't wait to see how they go!
