 Researching ideas for my game

The game idea that I'm focusing on in this post is my idea of a cat simulator. Based on some of the feedback I've received from my classmates I believe that this would be a very interesting and entertaining game.

The first idea for one of the possible game mechanics for my game is to include a feature where you can ' collect ' different cats. I imagine this being like the cat collection feature in the game Neko Atsume. This feature would allow for me to include a range of different kinds of cats with different personalities, likes and dislikes. This would keep the game fresh on repeat playthroughs. I would implement this by having different kinds of cats appear periodically in the adoption center.

Another possible mechanic I would like to include would be a feature where you can develop relationships with the cats you adopt. I imagine this being similar to the friendship mechanic in animal crossing where you can receive gifts, new interactions and special experiences depending on how close you are with particular cats.

The final mechanic I would like to include in my game is a feature that allows the player to design the home that they keep their cats in. This feature is a very common one in many games within the simulator genre. I imagine that there would be different sets of furniture that go together and if you are to complete a set you could possibly receive a bonus from certain cats that have a preference for that particular style

  1. Heeeeeeeeey GURL, first things first, I love your blog. This Cat Collection game seems pretty cool. Please tell me you have a crazy cat lady character that will occasionally scream random things.... that would make my day!
I dont know why but it is reminding me of pokemon meets tamagatchi (I hope I spelled that correctly. I like your ideas, they are giving me some inspiration for ideas I may have :D

  2. Cat collector game, great now I'm genuinely more hyped for someone else's game than my own, why do I already see myself possibly sinking hours into a game like this? Why do I wanna collect every cat I can and suggest this game to numerous people? Why do I wanna catch 'em all and be the very best that no one eve- yeah okay bad reference, but I'm not kidding I CANNOT wait to see how this game goes :D

  3. Love all of these game ideas, a cat simulator is really original I would've never thought of something like that. I think that any of the mechanics that you listed would be really fun games to play, especially the collecting cats idea, I would be entertained for hours. I hope they're easy for you to create! Best of luck :)

  5. Hi Ciara, the cat simulator idea is really good and unique!! Animal crossing was great so I think its a good idea to bring in the friendship mechanic from that game. I also like the opportunity for customization by changing the furniture in the house this is a fun idea. Keep it up!!

  6. Hi Ciara, I here to give some feedback on your game idea!

I think that the idea of creating a cat simulator is creative and unique. I certainly wouldn’t have come up with it, that’s for sure. I can see a lot of potential with this type of idea. The game that you use as an example, Neko Atsume, is also a good example. I can see and imagine what you’d try to create thanks to it.

Although, I’d have ask if you’d be able to create a sort of relationship mechanic with the little amount of time that we have to develop this game. Relationship mechanics in other games tend to be complicated, so I’m slightly concerned that the mechanic may take too much development time if you decide to include it.

Finally, I think that the customization mechanic can work out. It sounds like it’s reasonably doable. However, have you considered trying to customize the actual cats? Make them be able to wear bows or other cute/funny stuff.

That is all, I hope you liked this feedback!!!!!!
